INTRODUCING THE NSCA 8 DAY WORKSHOP...

Cast Drawing in Pencil,
Charcoal or Charcoal
and White Chalk

Students will learn the basics of Classical Drawing, the foundation for the Contemporary Art movement named Classical Realism.

Students start either by copying in pencil one lithograph of a cast drawing or immediately drawing from an antique cast. Students will be introduced to the visual elements used when drawing in a classical style (outline, shadow shape and half-tones).

Next, each student will begin their cast drawing by blocking in the big shapes of the contour and shadow shapes. After developing the gesture and proportional relationships of the shapes we will begin working with value in order to create a harmonious tonal range. As the drawing becomes more refined we will focus on sharp and soft edges in the outline and shadow edge in order to create a sense of form and atmosphere.

Dana is available for guidance if students are unsure whether to begin by copying the lithograph or drawing immediately from the cast. She can also help students in choosing a medium.

Who will benefit from this class?
Graphic Artists, Illustrators, Cartoonists, Web Designers, Commercial Artists, Fine Artists, and anyone with an interest in Classical Art methodology.
